We saw Phil at 6PM. Praise God for answered prayers today!!! His FiO2 is now down to 55% and his saturations were around 95-96%. Like I said earlier, they switched him to this new fancy ventilator. I found out the purpose of it. It is able to give percussions as it gives him respirations. They aren't using this feature yet, but Robert just got it in case the lung doctor wants to use it. They also started what they call CPT- chest physical therapy. They percuss and vibrate his chest in hopes of breaking up the mucous. Robert said it is like taking a back massager and rubbing it up and down your back. Then they put a suction down the tube in his throat to get the stuff out. They are doing this 4 times a day. They are going to keep Phil sedated again tonight to try to get his FiO2 down some more. That is the big goal for the rest of the night. Then maybe tomorrow if he can get down to 35%, they will try again to switch him just to the pressure support and see how he does- another breathing trial.
Robert said it is a good sign that his cultures didn't come back today because if something grew this fast, it indicates a very strong infection.
Please continue to pray for Phil's lungs and that God would breathe oxygen into his blood.
I won't lock the keys and computer in the motorhome in the morning so I will do a post probably around 10 or so after we see the doctors. If anything changes when we go back in at 9PM tonight I will let you know. Beth, Justin, and I plan to sleep in the motorhome tonight. Thank you God for some improvement today.
