Just as I was about to post that we hadn't heard anything yet, Dr. Levy, the head transplant surgeon came and talked with us. He told us that Phil is doing well. He said that we haven't stepped back and we have accomplished some baby steps, but we aren't around the corner yet. Beth and I praise God for baby steps. So Phil's liver enzymes continue to improve. His clotting is improving as well. This tells them that this liver is functioning at some capacity, but the big question is how long will it function for. Would it fail in a couple of months and they would have to retransplant at that time? He told us that his current liver is from someone in their 50's so that potentially it could last. The surgeon said that they continue to have to way the risks and benefits of Phil's current status and the risk/benefit of going back for another surgery right now. Maybe they will be able to wait for some of the fluid to come off before going back to surgery or maybe he won't need surgery at all. He said they received an offer last night around midnight and he wasn't pleased with it to say the least. He said no one should receive it. He said that they would continue to way offers throughout the day and would be in communication with us throughout the day.
A new issue that we need to be praying for is Phil's lungs. Due to the large amount of fluid in his body, his lungs are not receiving oxygen as well as they should. They are using large amounts of oxygen. This is all due to the large volume of fluid. They are going to talk with the kidney doctors to see about removing more fluid through dialysis. Pray that his lungs will use the oxygen well and that they can decrease his oxygen requirements. Continue to pray against infection.
Praise God- His current liver is doing better and God is healing it. Continue to pray that He would heal this current liver if this is His will or that he would provide one in His perfect timing. Pray for discernment for the doctors regarding if they should proceed with a new liver and if so, when is the best time. His blood pressure continues to improve and he is requiring less and less blood pressure medication. He also continues to improve his urine output which indicates his kidneys continue to improve. He lost 2 Liters yesterday. His color also looks better- a little more pink. We also praise God that we have the same nurse, Robert, again today and Byron will be back again tonight.
We are excited Kristin, Phil's daughter, is flying in from Nashville, TN, today at noon. Pray for her safe travel.
Thank you again for blessing us with your prayers, visits, calls, text messages, etc.
