God continues to heal Dad's lungs. This morning he is down to 55% on his FiO2. This is so great. They are giving him some breathing treatments with medicine to dilate his lungs. His new bed is so neat. It it a big air bed that rotates him on his side. It changes him to the other side every 10 minutes. This helps to get the fluid off of his lungs. They continue to lighten the sedation. I spoke with him and he raised an eyebrow. It was exciting. We have not spoke with a doctor yet today as to what the plan for the day is. His blood pressure continues to improve as well. They are now down to 20 on his only blood pressure medicine which is awesome and they continue to decrease it.
We need to continue to pray for the clotting function of his liver to kick in. His INR is 1.8 again today but they are having to give him clotting factors in order to keep it at this level. Normal is less than 1.0, but the doctors said they would be happy if it was 1.5 and stayed there without having to give him clotting factors. His Bilirubin is also the same today at 3.5. We need to pray that this will come down as well.
Kidneys continue to function well. According to the kidney doctor, he has lost 10 pounds of fluid, and has about 10 more pounds to lose. It is funny how the different doctors measure in different ways. Some focus on liters and some on pounds. They are backing off a little on his dialysis because they want to get him off the blood pressure medicine and his lungs are improving. They are still taking off about 150 ml/hour.
Some of you have met Ruth, a lady who is here for her sister in the ICU. She has been here for 7 days. This lady has slept in the chair for the past week. Last night she put the cushions of the chairs on the floor and made herself a bed. It was the first time she stretched out in a week. There is not a way to turn out the lights in the waiting room so Justin has been taking the light bulb out of the ceiling so that it doesn't shine in her face. This morning Ruth told Beth that she slept like she was at the Hilton last night because she knew there was a man here watching over her. Justin has stayed in the waiting room the past 2 nights. It was funny. Yesterday morning, Justin forgot to put the light back in the ceiling and when Beth showed up the maintenance guy was replacing the light bulb. Now Justin puts the light bulb back before the morning.
Will update once the doctor comes by.
